Royer Oscillator

Royer oscillator

Royer oscillator

Circuit description The two halves of the primary are driven by two transistors in push-pull configuration. The feedback winding couples a small amount of the transformer flux back in to the transistor bases to provide positive feedback, generating oscillation.

What is a Royer?

French and English (of Norman origin): occupational name from Old French roier 'cartwright wheelwright'. French: from an ancient Germanic personal name composed of hrōd 'fame renown' + hari heri 'army'. Compare Rodier .

How does a relaxation oscillator work?

A relaxation oscillator is a repeating circuit (like the flasher circuit illustrated above) which achieves its repetitive behavior from the charging of a capacitor to some event threshold. The event discharges the capacitor, and its recharge time determines the repetition time of the events.

Does Royer 122 need phantom power?

Using the R-122 Active Ribbon Microphone™ Royer's active series ribbon microphones require phantom power to operate. To ensure long service life for your R-122 active ribbon microphone, care should be taken when connecting the microphone to a phantom power source.

Will phantom power damage a Royer r10?

Royer ribbon microphones are not usually affected by the presence of phantom power. However, we still recommend that you deactivate phantom power when Royer microphones are being connected or disconnected simply because other abnormal conditions may exist that could cause problems.

Where is the Royer R-10 made?

The Royer R-10 is a passive mono ribbon microphone designed for use in the studio and on live stages. Hand-built in our Burbank California factory, the R-10's sound, and performance are all-Royer and it handles SPLs of up to 160 dB @ 1 kHz.

Where are Royer mics made?

Every Royer is hand-made in the USA by craftsmen who are fanatical about building the best ribbon microphones in the world. Come inside and see what ribbon microphones can do for you.

What is the difference between harmonic oscillator and relaxation oscillator?

In harmonic oscillators, the energy always flows in one direction-from the active to passive components. However, in relaxation oscillators, the energy is exchanged between the active and passive components. In harmonic oscillators, the frequency of oscillations is determined by the feedback path.

Why is it called a relaxation oscillator?

As at this particular interval the applied voltage charges the capacitor hence output voltage will be zero. Due to this relaxing state of the oscillator, it is termed as the relaxation oscillator. So, the frequency of oscillations of the oscillator relies on the charging and discharging of the capacitor.

What devices use relaxation oscillator?

Resistor-capacitor (RC) relaxation oscillators are generally produced using operational voltage amplifiers or integrated circuits equipped with timers.

Is Royer 121 good for vocals?

The 121 is really versatile, can be flipped for a brighter tone (but can't do high SPL backwards), and the mic angle relative to the source has a significant effect on EQ. It brightens up when you angle it down. Overall it is a crucial part of my mic locker.

Can phantom power damage a mixer?

Most recording devices or mixers have microphone preamplifiers that put out phantom power. However, phantom power can damage some equipment, specifically any equipment with unbalanced outputs.

Why is phantom power necessary?

Why do I need phantom power? Phantom power, commonly designated as +48V or P48, was designed to power microphones without using bulky external power supplies such as the ones required for tube microphones. It's a way of sending the DC electrical current required through a balanced XLR cable.

Does phantom power improve sound quality?

Phantom power simply supplies a condenser microphone with additional voltage. Phantom power therefore does not reduce noise, but it does provide the microphone with the necessary boost in power that it needs to record audio. Noise is more likely to be reduced by taking other measures.

Does phantom power hurt guitar?

It's highly unlikely that subjecting your guitar to phantom power will cause any damage. Guitars are line-level devices that commonly use unbalanced, TS cables. Phantom power can only be sent through balanced cables – in most cases, 3-pin XLRs.

Is phantom power bad for mics?

Will it damage my microphones if the phantom power is on and the mics don. It will not hurt anything to leave your phantom power on. Most dynamic or condenser microphones that don't require phantom power will reject it. Ribbon mics are the exception in this situation.

Are Rode mics made in China?

Today, all Rode manufacturing takes place in Australia, the majority of it within Rode's own factory located in Sweetwater, a suburb of Sydney.

Where is MXL made?

MXL's headquarters, research and development center, and production operations are located within the Marshall Electronics facility in Torrance, California. MXL operates manufacturing facilities in the US, China, Japan, Korea and Russia.

Is MXL a good mic brand?

The MXL 990 is a fine balance of quality and affordability. It receives generally favorable reviews from professional and hobbyist users alike, and in no way sounds worse than any similarly-priced mics in its range.

Why is the harmonic oscillator so important?

The harmonic oscillator model is very important in physics, because any mass subject to a force in stable equilibrium acts as a harmonic oscillator for small vibrations. Harmonic oscillators occur widely in nature and are exploited in many manmade devices, such as clocks and radio circuits.
